iMovie Overlay Project: Step-by-Step Guide

Objective: Use your storyboard to create a 60-second iMovie that incorporates video overlay techniques like Picture-in-Picture, split screen, and green screen.

Step 1: Review Your Storyboard

  • Look over the storyboard you created. Make sure you understand the story you want to tell and the video techniques you plan to use.

Step 2: Gather Your Materials

  • Collect all the videos, images, and audio you will need for your project. Make sure they are relevant to your chosen content.

Step 3: Start Filming

  • Begin recording your video clips according to your plan. Ensure you have enough footage for each overlay technique.

Step 4: Open iMovie

  • Launch iMovie and create a new project. Import all your video clips and materials.

Step 5: Edit Your Movie

  1. Add Clips: Drag your video clips into the timeline.
  2. Apply Overlay Effects:
    • For Picture-in-Picture, select the clip you want to overlay, then choose the overlay option.
    • For Split Screen, select two clips and adjust them to show side by side.
    • For Green Screen, insert your clip over a green background and choose a new background.
  3. Trim Clips: Make sure each clip is the right length. Aim for a total of 60 seconds.

Step 6: Add Audio and Titles

  • Add music or voiceovers to enhance your movie. Don’t forget to include titles or captions where needed.

Step 7: Review Your Movie

  • Watch your movie from start to finish. Check for any areas that need adjustments or improvements.

Step 8: Share Your iMovie

  • Once you are satisfied, save your project in Google Drive and submit the link in Jupitergrades! Due in Jupiter by the end of class Monday 10/14.
